The Keetoowah band were driven from Georgia during the Trail of Tears in the 1830's, and are hoping for a fruitful homecoming. The tribe wrote to Gov. Nathan Deal last month regarding building a casino, possibly in the Ball Ground Area. The casino company wouldpurchase the land and the feds would declare it in trust for the tribe. The state would negotiate a cut of the profits. We will follow this story for you here on WLJA.
